Quick Guide to Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Indiana, or just call it Indy for short, is the largest city in Indiana. Founded in 1821, the Treaty of St. Mary’s transferred control from indigenous tribal populations to the United States. Since then it has transitioned from a manufacturing and transportation hub to a prominent part of the civil rights movement to its current mix of wholesale trade, finance, insurance and of course sports.

Home to the Colts, Pacers, Fever and the Indy 500, this city knows how to do sports. It also knows how to host a State Fair. Every summer the 250-acre Indiana State Fairgrounds turns into a massive event with carnival rides, food stands, animals, tractors, Lego farms and even a knight in shining armor.

OurBus is proud to offer trips connecting Indy with Chicago, Bloomington, Lafayette and Zionsville along our Hoosier route.

Points of Interest

  1. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is the largest children’s museum in the world, spanning 433,000 square feet and 120,000 artifacts. Parents and Child magazines have both named it the best one in the US. So, grab the kids and be one of the 1.2 million visitors per year.

  2. Even if you’re not a fan of motor sports, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum should be in your plans when visiting Indy. You can see the actual trophy that is given to Indy 500 winners, the Borg-Warner Trophy.

  3. Take a walk  or ride a bike down the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, 8 miles of cultural immersion that was opened in 2013. On it, you’ll see all historically important areas including Fountain Square, Indiana Avenue, Broad Ripple Village, Canal and White River State Park, Market East, Wholesale and Mass Ave.

  4. Go to a festival. Depending on the time of year, you’ll have a choice of the Indiana State Fair, Indy 500, Historic Irvington Halloween Festival, Indy Pride Festival, Indiana Black Expo or OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon.
